[:it]

Howard Carter was the first to access an almost untouched tomb of a king of Egypt, its contents gave very little historical information about the young Tutankhamun. It is a small sepulcher, initially built for a civilian character, who was transformed in haste to the death of the pharaoh. The space was very small to contain the king’s kit; each room in the funeral complex was an architectural and ritual function. A staircase of seventeen steps and a corridor lead to the antechamber and a secondary compartment. Entering to the right, at a lower level, is the access to the burial chamber with the treasure room.

Secondary compartment.

Inside it was found a large number of objects, many shattered: vases, furniture, weapons, ushabti, originally intended for other rooms. Performed as a warehouse of oils, ointments, food and wine.

The funeral chamber.

The north end of the antechamber was closed by a sealed and plastered wall. On the opposite side, there was the king’s funeral chamber, the only room decorated with paintings: Measure 6.37m x 4.02m. An open door on the east wall gave access to the treasure chamber.

Treasury Room

Carter gave this name to the room for the objects deposited here. It is also called “chamber of the canopic vases”, as the most significant element was the monumental complex where the bowels of the king rested. In this room were found the “most sacred” and precious objects of the funeral cult.

Funeral Kit

In the funeral kit of Tutankhamun an element known to all, this is, without a doubt, his funerary mask. For its realization a great craftsmanship was necessary. With a height of just over half a meter, modeled from two golden sheets weighing ten kilos, worked with a hammer and then decorated with lapis lazuli inlays, it is one of the most successful creations of Pharaonic art. The mask represents the pharaoh with the nemes, which falls on the back and ends in a heavy tail. On the forehead we see a cobra and a vulture, the respective protector goddesses of Bass and Upper Egypt; in addition to being embellished with a braided beard, the pharaoh has pierced ears to wear earrings. The eyes, made up with lapis lazuli, are an itch of quartz and obsidian.

The wide collar of Tutankhamun is formed by a combination of semi-precious stones of different colors: turquoise, lapis lazuli and carnelian. The main characteristic of these collars is that they are so heavy that they are worn with a counterweight in the back.

The bib with the name of the king. The ancient Egyptians adored wordplay and to give more prominence to the writings used cryptography. On the king’s chest, appears one of the king’s names, Nebkheperura, written using hieroglyphs that replace the common ones and can only be read by very experienced people.

The fans to withstand high temperatures and the annoyance of insects. The monarch fans were packed in ostrich feather. One of these, with a short handle, still kept them intact at the time of discovery.

Tutankhamun’s pierced golden plate that keeps the forces of chaos at bay, the enemies of Egypt, chasing them and trampling them; two winged goddesses protect him from evil.

Perforated case; the Egyptians kept their personal belongings in boxes or urns. made with a rather light type of wood and decorated with hieroglyphics and inlays of gilded wood. With the legs protected by bronze cantons and the interior divided into 16 compartments.

Centerpiece carved in calcite representing a ceremonial ship with the bow and stern in the shape of a gazelle’s head. the task of captaining the stern boat belongs to a naked dwarf, on the opposite side of the cabin there is a kneeling woman who holds a lotus at chest level.
